Many landscapes are just perceived as “filling empty areas between buildings, housing developments, highways and urban centres, or being vague sectors capable of managing themselves”. In other words, they are often described as vacant areas with little value, just waiting to be developed, to be rendered useful with some identifiable (mostly economic or functional) functions…

CANADIAN LANDSCAPE PORTFOLIO INITIATIVE

MORE TIME, MORE POSSIBILITIES TO PARTICIPATE TO THE PORTFOLIO FIRST EDITION

The January 31 deadline is fast approaching and submissions are still coming in at a regular pace, but also pertinent comments and questions...

Many participants found the permitted number and localization of the submissions to be a little restrictive. One important goal for the Portfolio first edition was to be representative of the largest number of landscape architects from across the country and to propose some personal "significant landscapes" from their province or territory. In the end, your submissions are your favourite places, sites. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some very significant, other favourite places across the country. We are all aware that being a landscape architect is often a state of mind - we are always on the lookout for sites, details or vistas - it is the whole point of the Portfolio...

WHAT DOES LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS SEE WHEN BEING BUSY LIVING THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES? AND THAT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE.

So I came to the conclusion that submissions could be showing sites located outside of your respective province or territory and since we could have more than two (2) favourite places, submissions could exceed the original limit of two. The general conditions being modified, we also decided to extend the submission period to February 29 so that everyone had the opportunity to profit from the changes. So, to recapitulate, the new General Conditions and calendars for the submissions are:

  1. Any CSLA member can submit an unlimited number of images with their texts;
  2. These submissions can be from outside of your province or territory;
  3. The updated submission period is to end by February 29, 2016;
  4. All the other conditions stay the same.
I hope that these adjustments will make the exercise even more exciting.
